What is stomach peptic ulcer ?

Definition:

A stomach peptic ulcer, also known as a gastric ulcer, is a sore or erosion that develops in the lining of the stomach due to the breakdown of the protective layer of mucus that lines the stomach. This erosion can occur in the inner lining of the stomach or in the upper part of the small intestine.

Causes :

Peptic ulcers can be caused by a variety of factors, including infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria, long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and stress. Symptoms of a stomach peptic ulcer can include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, bloating, and loss of appetite.

Treatment:

Treatment for stomach peptic ulcers typically involves a combination of medication to reduce the production of stomach acid and antibiotics to eliminate the H. pylori bacteria.
